Tailored for homes with pets, this $189.99 air purifier takes a specialized approach, integrating a three-stage filtration system equipped to handle one of the primary challenges pet owners face: fur and the occasional unpleasant smell.
The filtration system includes a washable pre-filter that captures larger debris like fur, a main filter that targets smaller particles and dander, and an activated carbon filter designed to eliminate odors, featuring 140 grams of activated carbon.
Another notable aspect of the purifier’s design is its U-shaped air inlet, which Levoit claims is effective in collecting airborne pet hair and particles while enhancing airflow and preventing filter clogs.
After using the purifier for just over a week, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it captured fur and other particles that usually linger in my living space or settle on surfaces.
Regarding odor management, Levoit asserts that the Vital Pet Pro can eliminate up to 70% of unpleasant smells within an hour. While I couldn’t conduct a specific test to validate this, I certainly noticed a marked improvement in the freshness of the room after the purifier had been in operation.
I also appreciated its automatic cleaning feature, which clears away accumulated hair and debris from the pre-filter and collects it in a removable tray. This is very convenient, as it spares you the trouble of constantly taking apart the unit to clean out fur.
Moreover, the accompanying app offers various modes to streamline the purification process. The Auto Plus Mode assesses air quality changes and adjusts performance accordingly.
Pet Mode specifically addresses the way pet-related particles can accumulate, alternating between operating the fan at high speed for 15 minutes to capture particulates and switching to a lower speed for 60 minutes to maintain air quality while minimizing noise and energy consumption.
Rather than displaying air quality as a numerical reading, the Vital Pet Pro utilizes a straightforward color-coded system: red signals poor air quality, orange indicates moderate levels, green reflects good quality, and cyan denotes very good conditions. I found this approach to be more intuitive, allowing a quick glance to determine air improvement without needing to decode numbers.
It’s worth noting that the Vital Pet Pro is somewhat larger than I anticipated, so ensure you have enough space before purchasing one.
Noise levels are another factor to consider. On its highest setting, the fan is certainly noticeable, but when set to a lower speed, it’s quiet enough to run overnight without disturbing sleep. For sensitive sleepers, the Sleep Mode further reduces noise.
