Lenovo’s Inaugural Google Book Releases Have Surfaced

The firm seems to be developing new laptops and a 2-in-1 device for Google’s latest project.

Lenovo is reportedly creating not one, but two new models branded as Googlebooks, as revealed by leaked images. Google had previously announced Lenovo as one of the initial partners when it unveiled its innovative Android-based version of ChromeOS in May. However, details regarding the devices that will support this new software were previously unclear.

The leaked images showcase three devices that sport the Googlebook logo on their keyboards: two laptops similar in design to Lenovo’s Chromebook Plus 14 and a 2-in-1 tablet equipped with a kickstand and keyboard reminiscent of the IdeaPad Pro Gen 2. While the number of USB-C and USB-A ports vary, all three devices feature a bright white exterior and include a light strip akin to a “Glowbar,” a distinctive hardware feature that Google hopes will set Googlebooks apart from competitors. Illuminated accents are also anticipated to be a characteristic of the forthcoming Pixel phones.

Google’s announcement initially displayed images of an unidentified laptop to promote its new AI-driven platform, thus making the inclusion of tablets as Googlebooks a novel concept. Although both ChromeOS and Android are compatible with tablets, this marks the first indication that the new platform is not limited to laptops. Many of the recently demonstrated features of Googlebooks have revolved around mouse and voice interactions. An example is the Magic Pointer, allowing users to move their mouse to generate quick, context-sensitive prompts for Gemini.

There has been no official word from Google regarding the launch date for the Googlebooks initiative, other than it will be later this year. Given that this project involves multiple third-party manufacturers, it is likely that the Googlebooks will debut independently from the company’s mobile devices. Furthermore, Google has also identified ASUS, Dell, and HP as additional hardware partners alongside Lenovo.
