Google’s Find Hub Now Alerts You If You’ve Accidentally Left a Tracker Behind

The tech giant has rolled out a new feature for its tracking devices that alerts users if they leave them behind.

Google has begun to introduce a new capability in its Find Hub application that will notify users if they inadvertently leave a location tracker or its attached item behind. This feature mirrors similar separation alerts that have been offered by Apple for a number of years, allowing users to receive timely notifications when they stray too far from their Find My-enabled devices. Samsung has also incorporated this functionality into its SmartThings platform for devices such as Galaxy SmartTags and earbuds, enhancing the likelihood of recovering lost items, particularly before traveling too far away or boarding a flight.

The rollout of this feature was first noted by a tech news outlet. To activate separation alerts on an Android device, users must open the Find Hub app, select a tag from the device list, and then click on the settings icon. On the tracking device’s page, there will be an option to turn on Notify when left behind. When enabled, alerts will be sent from the Find Hub network if users venture a certain distance away from the tracker, except if it is located at their designated Home address within Google Maps.

Currently, this feature appears to be available in the United States and various regions in Europe. It also supports multiple brands, as demonstrated by users who successfully accessed the feature with their Motorola and Chipolo trackers linked to an Android device.
