Google has unveiled an exciting new offering for Pokémon enthusiasts: the special edition Fitbit Air, specifically designed to work with Pokémon Sleep. This innovative collaboration merges Fitbit’s fitness tracking capabilities with the sleep-oriented Pokémon game, coinciding with the franchise’s milestone 30th anniversary.
Launched in 2023, Pokémon Sleep transforms the routine of going to bed into an interactive gaming experience. Players can earn rewards based on their bedtime adherence, while the quantity and quality of their sleep contribute to their in-game progress. The journey begins with a large, sleepy Snorlax, and by getting sufficient rest, players build up “Drowsy Power,” effectively attracting a variety of other Pokémon to discover.
The Fitbit Air enhances this experience by synchronizing with both the Google Health app and Pokémon Sleep. This functionality allows users to monitor daytime activities such as movement, heart rate, and cardio load, as well as track their sleep duration and quality at night.
This isn’t the first wearable device compatible with Pokémon Sleep, as the app already supports various devices, including the Apple Watch, several Fitbit models, Galaxy Watch, and Google Pixel Watch. Additionally, players can enjoy Pokémon Sleep without the need for any wearable technology.
However, in honor of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, this collaboration stands out as a creative intersection of gaming and health. It transforms a daily activity into an engaging opportunity within the Pokémon universe while providing a more enjoyable experience for users of Google’s health tracking technology. Recently, Google also partnered with athlete Stephen Curry to release a limited edition Pixel Watch, priced at $579, featuring a unique design crafted for fitness activities.
The special edition Fitbit Air is available for pre-order at $129 and will start shipping on September 15. It can be purchased both online and in physical stores via the Google Store and Target.
The regular Fitbit Air retails for $99. Google initially announced the Fitbit Air in May, showcasing its sleek design, upgraded health tracking features, and an AI-driven coach that offers personalized tips based on users’ activity, sleep patterns, and overall wellness data.
