Discover a Dynamic Subscription Hub Featuring Eclectic and Unconventional Indie Games

Pantaloon, a company known for its curation of indie games, has launched a new subscription service that many indie game enthusiasts may find appealing. Named Playbill, this service is similar to Xbox Game Pass but highlights “bold and bizarre” indie titles.
The initial game lineup includes third-party options like Buckshot Roulette, Silt, Ex Sanguis, and Cabin Factory, alongside Pantaloon’s own creations: Sub-Verge, Occlude, It Takes a War, Boxroom, Rolla, and the charming music simulation game Offbeat.
Similar to how Game Pass provides subscribers with new Xbox titles on launch day (with the exception of new Call of Duty games), Playbill will feature all of Pantaloon’s newly released games immediately upon their launch. An exciting addition is the timed exclusive Virtue: Prologue, a visual novel that serves as a companion to Virtue and a Sledgehammer, which is set to release next week.
Moreover, the Playbill includes a section called the Green Room, where users can access demos, playtests, and even “abandoned prototypes.” Right now, there are playtests available for several intriguing titles, including Isle Goblin, Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game, and Lemonade Apocalypse.
Pantaloon’s founder, Jamin Smith, shared, “We aim for the Playbill to be a platform that celebrates experimental and quirky games. This model opens up opportunities for players to explore genres and experiences that are often overlooked by mainstream platforms like Steam. Importantly, we will not host any games that incorporate generative AI; the Playbill is dedicated to the artistry of game development.”
After cultivating a newsletter following of over 50,000, Pantaloon transitioned into publishing, offering puzzles that allow subscribers to earn game keys or purchase curated titles. The puzzles are free to enjoy via Playbill, which also offers community features, including Virtue: Prologue and several ARGs. Access to the complete game selection is available via a Primo subscription for an affordable $5 monthly or $60 annually.
It’s important to note that Playbill operates on a key-based system. As keys run out, games will rotate out of the service, while new titles will be added regularly. Annual subscribers will have access to all 13 initial games plus any new releases.
For those opting for a monthly subscription, a guaranteed game will be provided each month, although the specific title will not be selectable. Smith explained, “The monthly offerings come through tailored partnerships, so the available games are predetermined. However, some puzzles—like this month’s—offer a reward choice for those who can solve them.”
Subscribers on a monthly plan can access all games after maintaining their subscription for six consecutive months. This strategy helps prevent users from quickly claiming all 14 titles and then canceling, Smith noted.
