Cognition: AI Coding Startup Set to Secure Funding Talks at a Staggering $40 Billion Valuation

Cognition, the company behind the AI coding assistant Devin, is initiating conversations with investors for a new funding round, anticipating a significant increase in its valuation after securing $1 billion at a $26 billion valuation last May.

Insider reports suggest that this upcoming funding round could elevate the company’s valuation to at least $40 billion, provided it reaches an annualized revenue run rate of $1 billion.

Just three months prior to this, Cognition’s Scott Wu confirmed to TechCrunch that their annualized revenue run rate had reached $492 million. Furthermore, he noted that organizations have been increasing their usage of Devin by 50% month-over-month over the last six months.

Wu, a renowned young programmer, emphasized that Devin is not intended to replace human programmers. Instead, it is designed to handle less desirable tasks that programmers often prefer to avoid, such as updating legacy software or transitioning applications between platforms. This functionality likely contributes to its increasing adoption by various enterprises. Among its clients are notable names like Mercedes-Benz, NASA, and Goldman Sachs.
