Bot Detection Firm Spur Secures $200 Million Investment from Insight Partners

Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity firm situated in Lake Mary, Florida, has successfully secured a $200 million funding round led by Insight Partners.
Established in 2017 by two ex-Defense Department engineers—five years prior to the public debut of ChatGPT—Spur was ahead of its time. The company’s technology assists businesses in differentiating between genuine human users and increasingly sophisticated bot traffic, thereby helping to identify fraudulent users and potential threats.
“With the rise of advanced criminal VPNs, residential proxy services, and other anonymization technologies, organizations are grappling with a significant challenge: they can observe the activity but lack visibility into the infrastructure behind it,” stated Thomas Krane from Insight in a written comment.
Detecting harmful traffic has long been a challenge for corporate security teams. However, the current scale of this challenge is unprecedented. According to a report from Cloudflare, as of mid-2026, bots have become more prevalent online than human users.
“I initially believed this would occur by the end of 2027 or early 2027, but the rapid growth of automated traffic has led to bots surpassing human traffic on the Internet for the first time in history,” remarked Matthew Prince, founder and CEO of Cloudflare, highlighting findings from his company’s recent traffic analysis.
