Pangram Enhances AI Detection Capabilities to Include Video and Image Formats

The firm is expanding its offerings in AI detection technologies.
Pangram, the developer known for its popular AI text detection tool, has introduced new features to identify AI-generated images and videos.
With this update, Pangram users can now upload videos and receive evaluations to determine if AI was used in their creation or alteration. The tool distinguishes between videos that are partially AI-generated and those that are entirely produced by AI. Additionally, it includes a heatmap feature to highlight which parts of the video may have been influenced by AI.
The company claims that the foundation of its video detection technology excels particularly well at identifying cutting-edge AI-generated content, achieving over 98 percent accuracy in tests compared to other tools.
Pangram has also enhanced its detection capabilities for images. The previously released Pangram Image 1.0 model is now accessible through a Chrome extension, allowing users to automatically scan images while browsing for potential AI-generated visuals.
This image detection model reportedly flagged over 99 percent of AI images, with a minimal false positive rate of 0.27 percent during testing. However, there are limitations; the firm indicates that results may be less reliable for images with resolutions below 512 x 512. In a demonstration, Pangram’s CEO, Max Spero, noted that the tool returned uncertain results for images that clearly were not AI-generated.
Spero addressed challenges in developing the image detection model, explaining that many smartphone cameras, such as those on iPhones, apply AI techniques to enhance real photos. The firm needed to ensure that their model could accurately differentiate between AI enhancements and images wholly created by AI. He also shared that the release of the image model was delayed for thorough testing on recent iPhone models, as initial results flagged certain camera images incorrectly as AI content.
Currently, Pangram’s new AI detection functionalities for images and videos are available to subscribers. Those without a subscription can still check a limited number of images without needing to register for a paid plan.
