Anthropic Pledges 5% of Shares to Establish a Public Benefit Fund

Anthropic has declared its initiative to establish a “public benefit fund” aimed at enhancing its capacity to support socially beneficial projects.
The company plans to allocate 5% of its equity to this fund, which will function as an independent unit within the organization. Additionally, there is a provision to contribute an extra 2% for every 50% appreciation in Anthropic’s valuation. They have also provided preliminary ideas for fund utilization, which may include significant donations to established nonprofits or direct aid to specific communities.
Furthermore, Anthropic has already dedicated $200 million to examine the influence of AI on employment. However, considering the rapid advancements in AI technology, the company expressed that more innovative strategies might be required, thereby giving the Fund the flexibility to explore these options.
This announcement arrives amid growing skepticism towards the AI sector, a sentiment that CEO Dario Amodei has labeled as a “fundamental crisis of trust.”
For those curious about who will determine the allocation of resources for public welfare, Anthropic has indicated that further details regarding its governance and decision-making processes will be unveiled in the months ahead.
