Fitbit Edge: Google’s Perfect Balance Between Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch

On Monday, Google introduced the Fitbit Edge, a new addition to its wearable lineup that sits between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch.

With a price tag of $179.99, the Fitbit Edge features a slim band and an OLED display designed for checking directions, notifications, weather updates, and music controls.

Similar to the Pixel Watch and Fitbit Air, the Edge integrates with Google Health Coach, powered by Gemini. A subscription to Google Health Premium is required to utilize this service. The Health Coach can analyze your fitness, health, and medical data to create personalized workout routines and plans, adjusting them based on your availability.

Additionally, the device includes Google’s Health Guardian feature, which monitors significant changes in health metrics over time, including factors related to blood pressure and insulin resistance. These functionalities were highlighted during the Pixel Watch 5 launch in August.

The Fitbit Edge can automatically detect and record over 100 different activities, including running, cycling, and walking. It collects contextual data from your movements to determine what activity you are engaged in and adds it to your weekly goals. Furthermore, the device accommodates more than 50 exercise modes and delivers on-screen prompts during workouts, such as reminders to increase effort or take breaks.

The built-in GPS has been improved to be 40% more precise than in previous models, enhancing tracking accuracy for outdoor activities. Additionally, the sleep-stage detection has seen a 15% boost in accuracy compared to earlier versions, allowing for better sleep summaries and coaching insights.

With a battery life lasting up to seven days on a single charge, the Fitbit Edge is also water-resistant up to 50 meters.

Preorders for the Fitbit Edge are available through the Google Store, with general availability starting October 27.

Available colors include Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon, along with a special edition featuring Stephen Curry, priced at $219.99.
