Anbernic Unveils Its Next Dual-Screen Handheld with an Ideal Aspect Ratio for 3DS Gaming

The RG DDS features a primary screen with a 5:3 aspect ratio, while its secondary display has a 4:3 ratio.

Following its recent announcement of a Nintendo DS remake, Anbernic is now introducing a modern take on its successor, the RG DDS, short for “Dream Dual-Screen,” which references the Nintendo 3DS.

Enhancing features from its previous model, the RG DS, the RG DDS is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chip, enabling it to emulate games from platforms like Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 2. With dual screens, many players will likely revisit their favorite 3DS games since the aspect ratios are well-matched. The clamshell design includes a primary 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1,200 x 720, offering a 5:3 aspect ratio, and a secondary 4-inch display with a resolution of 960 x 720, presenting a 4:3 aspect ratio. While Anbernic has not disclosed additional internal specifications, it has mentioned a 6,000mAh battery.

In terms of controls, the RG DDS closely resembles Nintendo’s handheld, but features an additional analog stick on the right. It also comes with an extendable capacitive stylus that can be conveniently stored when not in use. Anbernic has noted a dedicated AI button, though details about its features are currently limited.

As is customary, Anbernic has not provided pricing or release dates in this announcement. However, the RG DDS is expected to be priced slightly higher than its $99 predecessor. Known for its competitiveness in the market, Anbernic might offer a more affordable option compared to the recently launched Retroid Pocket Duo, which starts at $149.
