Apple Confirms Network Issue with AT&T on iPhone 18 Pro Max

Users experiencing connectivity issues with their devices may need to seek a replacement.

Apple has confirmed reports of network difficulties affecting the iPhone 18 Pro Max, specifically for users with AT&T in the United States. While an iOS update has been released to address the problem, it will not resolve issues for those whose devices have already lost service. Affected users will need to have their devices replaced, as indicated by Apple.

Insights from Apple on the AT&T problem

Identifying if your device is affected is straightforward; it will display an “SOS” symbol in the status bar instead of the usual signal bars, leading to failures in making calls, sending texts, or utilizing data services. However, Apple clarifies that not all AT&T users with an iPhone 18 Pro Max are impacted, affecting only a “small number.” In a statement, Apple noted:

“We have identified an issue affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on the AT&T network. This issue may result in service loss and inability to make calls. We released iOS 27.0.1 earlier this week and encourage users to update their devices promptly, alongside a carrier settings update.”

Interestingly, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the only model in the US utilizing a Qualcomm modem instead of Apple’s proprietary technology, although the correlation to the network issue remains unclear. If you possess an iPhone 18 Pro Max with an AT&T SIM, ensure you update to iOS 27.0.1. Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update to find the latest version.

For those who have already updated their software, it’s wise to verify whether the latest carrier settings are installed. In Settings, under General, select About to prompt the update. A lack of pop-up for a carrier settings update implies you are already updated. Regrettably, if your device has already lost its cellular connectivity, a software update will not resolve the issue. Affected users should reach out to Apple Support or AT&T for assistance with a device replacement.
