Meta Encourages DIY Muse Gadgets for Creative Enthusiasts

Meta introduces its innovative smart home device, the Muse Home Link
Meta’s latest AI project, the Muse Charm, won’t be the sole hardware related to this AI agent. The company is now inviting developers to create their own Muse-powered devices through a new open-source initiative called Muse Gadgets. As a starting point, Meta has launched its own smart home device, the Muse Home Link.
According to Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta’s superintelligence labs, the company is offering open-source firmware and a Linux SDK to empower users to integrate this AI into various hardware. Suggestions for device creations include an E Ink display, an HDMI dongle for televisions, or a small touchscreen accessory resembling the Muse Charm. The platform promises flexibility, allowing inventors to connect the agent to a wide array of devices. Additionally, Meta has established a Discord community for those interested in the project.
We built a gadget of our own, too: Muse Home Link is a little USB-C powered device that allows Muse to connect to your home network to interact with smart home devices like TVs and speakers and anything else that uses HTTPS.

The Muse Home Link is, essentially, a small dongle that Meta is offering for free to 5,000 Muse subscribers. Friedman describes it as “a little USB-C powered device that allows Muse to connect to your home network to communicate with smart home devices like TVs, speakers, and other equipment that supports HTTPS.”
Although it’s uncertain if Meta has more expansive plans for this initiative, observing the creations of enthusiasts may guide the company’s future hardware projects. CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently introduced the Muse Charm at Connect, suggesting it as a practical option for users who prefer interacting with their AI without utilizing smart glasses.
