Introducing the New Wide Fold: What the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Can’t Offer!

Xiaomi Unveils the 18 Fold in China

Summary:

  • Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi 18 Fold in China.
  • This model is the newest addition to the wide foldable phone market, following the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
  • The starting price for the Xiaomi 18 Fold is approximately $1,639, with no information on international availability yet.

Xiaomi debuted the 18 Fold at the IFA 2026, showcasing its first wide foldable smartphone. Now, the device is officially launched in China.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold features a 5.38-inch cover display (1,712 x 1,168) and a 7.58-inch internal screen (2,364 x 1,672), with both screens offering a refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz and a peak brightness of 4,000 nits. The internal display has a 2:1 aspect ratio, unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s 4:3 ratio, and includes an anti-reflective layer.

Moreover, the internal display utilizes a dual-layer ultra-thin glass (UTG) structure, which enhances durability and impact resistance. Xiaomi claims this technology makes the screen 178% stronger and 29% more resilient compared to its previous model, the Mix Fold 4.

In terms of design, the phone weighs 219 grams and measures 10.68mm when closed. It is available in several colors: Black, Warm Gold White, and Nishino Red. For protection, the cover display and back are made with Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0, and the device has IP58 and IP59 ratings, offering a higher level of water and dust resistance than Samsung’s IP48 rating, though it doesn’t reach the IP68 standard found in some competitors.

Specifications of the Xiaomi 18 Fold

The new foldable is equipped with Xiaomi’s XRing 03 processor, alongside options for 12GB to 16GB RAM and storage capacities ranging from 256GB to 1TB. Additionally, it houses a robust 6,000mAh battery, surpassing the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s 4,400mAh battery. Users can recharge the battery with 67W wired charging (50W PPS) or 50W wireless charging options.

The camera system is another highlight, featuring a Leica-branded setup that includes a 200MP main camera with an f/1.7 aperture, a 50MP periscope lens with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide camera. Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Xiaomi 18 Fold includes a telephoto camera, providing enhanced photographic capabilities.

Other noteworthy features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB 3.2 Gen 2 for data transfer, Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi 7, ultra-wideband (UWB) support, and an infrared (IR) blaster.

While details about international availability remain scarce, the starting price in China is set at 10,999 yuan (about $1,639). For comparison, the OPPO Find N6 starts at 9,999 yuan (roughly $1,490), and the HONOR Magic V6 is priced at 8,999 yuan (around $1,341). Xiaomi also offers a limited ceramic version of the device for 15,999 yuan (about $2,384), though only 1,500 units will be produced.
