Zac Kew-Denniss / Android Authority

Summary

  • Some Galaxy Watch users are experiencing an issue where their device fails to power on after being instructed to restart.
  • The restart request is normally linked to a routine time zone update, yet many watches do not boot afterward.
  • Fortunately, users can revive their devices by placing them back on the charging dock.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch models are renowned as some of the finest in the smartwatch market. However, like any technology, they are not immune to glitches, and a new issue has emerged concerning Samsung’s premium smartwatch.

Reports indicate that a Galaxy Watch Ultra encountered a problem where it was prompted to restart following a time zone update. While receiving such notifications is common, especially after changing time zones, it seems the watch failed to boot afterward.

This failure to restart understandably causes concern among users. Thankfully, it has been found that placing the Galaxy Watch Ultra on its charging dock successfully revives the device.

While this remedy is relatively straightforward, it raises concerns that such an issue exists at all. Until Samsung issues a software fix for this time zone-related restart problem, this workaround is currently the only option. Additionally, multiple users on the Samsung community forums have reported facing similar challenges, including one with the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic and another with the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.

So far, widespread reports of this issue have not emerged, leaving uncertainty regarding whether only specific models like the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Ultra 2, and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic are impacted. Efforts to contact Samsung regarding this bug are ongoing, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.

Such bugs can be frustrating, particularly when they are triggered by something as simple as a time zone update. For now, it might be wise to refrain from performing a restart linked to time zone adjustments if the charger is not readily available.
