Google Assistant to Disappear from Android Devices and Smart Gadgets This September

As summer winds down, changes are on the horizon for Google users.

Google Assistant has been a staple on various devices, but its time may soon be over as the company transitions to its new Gemini system. The tech giant has announced plans to phase out Assistant from Android smartphones and tablets, as well as WearOS smartwatches and other related gadgets in the coming weeks.

According to reports, users have started receiving notifications via email indicating that the functionality of Assistant will start to decline from September 4. The removal process is expected to take a few weeks to be completed across all devices, rendering Assistant unavailable on those platforms.

This transition will primarily affect Android phones that meet the requirements for running Gemini and will only be seen in regions where the new chatbot is accessible. Additionally, connected devices like compatible headphones will also be impacted.

However, there will be no changes to Google TV, Google Home, or smart displays at this time. Google has previously mentioned that a basic version of Assistant will still be available on devices running Android 9 or older with less than 2GB of RAM to handle essential tasks. Cars equipped with Google features will also retain access to Assistant, but it will not function on vehicles using Android Auto from a user’s smartphone.

For those eager to experience Gemini on their Android devices, the new app is available for download on the Play Store. Otherwise, some users might find themselves unaffected by this transition. In other news, details regarding Google’s upcoming Pixel devices will be revealed on August 12.
