Coca-Cola Halts Fairlife Dairy Production Following Cyber Ransom Incident

Coca-Cola, the renowned beverage manufacturer, has announced that a subsidiary involved in dairy production has encountered a cyberattack, leading to a suspension of its operations for the time being. In a report to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company revealed that its Fairlife dairy division suffered a ransomware attack, which has impacted its production systems. Consequently, all Fairlife production activities in the U.S. have been “temporarily halted.”
Operations of Fairlife in Canada remain unaffected.
Coca-Cola ranks among the largest companies globally, providing a diverse range of products including soft drinks, water, and dairy items. Fairlife is a significant brand within the company, projected to achieve sales of around $4 billion by the year 2024.
Cyberattacks targeting food and beverage sectors can lead to severe repercussions. Previous ransomware incidents involving Arizona Beverages in 2019 and food distributor UNFI last year caused extended interruptions in their production processes, resulting in shortages on store shelves.
The timeline for restoring Fairlife’s systems has not been disclosed by Coca-Cola.
