Summary

  • Users of the Pixel Watch are facing a frustrating glitch where their devices cannot access required sensor data for health tracking.
  • Many have attempted to modify app permissions and even reset their devices, but the issue persists.
  • Google acknowledges the problem and is actively working on a solution.

Smartwatches have become versatile devices, nearly matching smartphones in capabilities. However, most users tend to rely on them primarily for two functions: checking notifications and monitoring health metrics. Thus, it can be quite exasperating when these basic features fail. Recently, we reported on the challenges faced by Pixel Watch users regarding sensor permissions, which stopped them from recording health data. We now have an update on this matter.

Affected users have reported receiving error notifications indicating insufficient permissions to utilize the watch’s sensors. Despite modifying various settings, many found no resolution, and some even resorted to a factory reset but still encountered the same error.

When we inquired with our readership, nearly half confirmed they were experiencing similar issues, indicating the potential for a widespread problem.

We reached out to Google for clarification, and while we did not receive an immediate response, they have now reached out to give us an update.

Currently, there isn’t much detail available, but Google has confirmed that their engineers are aware of the issue and are working on a solution.

Unfortunately, no estimated time for a resolution has been provided, nor any temporary workaround, but it is a step forward.

Looking ahead, Google has a significant hardware event planned in under a month, set for August 12, where the focus will be on the Pixel 11 series. It is also expected that the Pixel Watch 5 will be unveiled. Hopefully, a fix for this current issue will be implemented before the launch of the new smartwatch.
