YouTube Introduces New Feature: Creators Can Tag Amazon Products and Earn Commissions on Sales

On Thursday, YouTube revealed that qualified creators in the United States can now tag Amazon items within their videos and earn a portion of the resulting sales. This feature can be utilized in shorts, long videos, and live streams.

This development transforms product endorsements into a more immediate source of income for content creators while simultaneously integrating Amazon’s extensive product range into one of the most widely used video platforms.

YouTube has previously operated a Shopping affiliate program with various retailers, but adding Amazon’s expansive selection allows creators to recommend a wider range of products through a seamless integration. By incorporating Amazon into the Shopping Affiliate Program, creators are no longer required to place Associates links in their video descriptions, hoping viewers will remember to use them when making a purchase.

YouTube has stated that Amazon will supply a curated selection of popular and sought-after products for creators to tag in their content. Additionally, if a creator wants to tag a specific item that isn’t available in the catalog, they can request its inclusion by contacting YouTube Support.

The new feature also supports auto-tagging. When this option is activated, YouTube’s systems can automatically check a creator’s latest uploads to identify and tag relevant Amazon products.

Creators will not receive detailed analytics for individual products or specific videos, but they can view their total daily earnings in YouTube Studio. If a viewer returns a tagged product, the corresponding commission will be subtracted from the creator’s earnings.

Currently, only eligible creators in the U.S. can tag Amazon products, although these tags will be visible to audiences worldwide. YouTube mentions that it may automatically pair a tagged item with a local retailer’s offer, giving creators the opportunity to earn commissions on qualifying international sales. If no local offer is available, viewers will be directed to the Amazon U.S. site, where commissions will be awarded if the purchase is completed there.

To qualify, creators must participate in YouTube’s Partner and Shopping Affiliate programs, possess an active Amazon Influencer or Associates account, and ensure it is linked to their YouTube channel.
