ThermoWorks Unveils Compact RFX Wireless Meat Probe Tailored for Smaller Cuts

The RFX Meat Mini delivers performance similar to its larger counterpart, the full-sized grilling probe.
ThermoWorks has introduced the RFX Meat probe, an excellent grilling accessory that allows users to monitor food temperatures from their mobile devices when connected to a Wi-Fi-enabled RFX Gateway. Although wireless temperature probes aren’t new, the RFX series is backed by ThermoWorks’ reputation for precision, making it a vital tool for grilling enthusiasts.
However, the original RFX Meat’s 4.7-inch probe is often too long for smaller portions of meat, poultry, and fish, like filet mignon or individual salmon cuts, due to its minimum immersion line of 3.15 inches. This limitation is resolved with the launch of the RFX Meat Mini. This compact version includes nearly all the features of the original, boasting four internal temperature sensors, a robust IP69K waterproof rating (making it dishwasher safe), and durability up to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. It also comes with a charging block powered by a AAA battery, capable of over 175 charges, while its maximum immersion line is now set at 2.6 inches, with a minimum at just 2.36 inches.
Aside from its size, the main distinction between the RFX Meat and the Mini is battery life. The Mini can last up to 48 hours per charge, whereas the standard model extends beyond 65 hours. With a runtime sufficient for most home barbecues, the Mini’s battery longevity shouldn’t pose an issue as long as it remains docked in the charging station when not in use. Only professional chefs might demand the extended battery life of the full-sized model.
This probe stands out in the market by utilizing a 433MHz radio frequency, in contrast to Bluetooth or Wi-Fi options. This technology enables it to connect with the RFX Gateway, which syncs with your home network and the ThermoWorks app. The use of radio waves helps reduce interference that could arise from grill or smoker walls. Additionally, the Gateway accommodates a separate wired ambient temperature probe, offering more precise temperature readings than wireless food probes with built-in sensors that may experience evaporative cooling during extended cooking sessions.
The RFX Meat Mini is currently available for $99, the same price as the RFX Meat during regular pricing. ThermoWorks is also offering a 20% discount on the Mini with the purchase of either the RFX Gateway or the RFX Meat Starter Kit, which includes a Gateway. Please note, the probe requires a Gateway to operate due to its Sub-1GHz radio frequency.
