The much-anticipated second iteration of the Tesla Roadster may soon be unveiled to the public.
On Saturday, the automaker made a brief announcement on X, stating, “Go for launch,” accompanied by an image that suggests a release date of “10.01,” indicating the new Roadster is set to be introduced on October 1. The image also appears to reference rocket thrusters, designed by SpaceX, the aerospace company led by Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk; these optional thrusters are expected to give the Roadster some aerial capabilities.
Originally introduced in November 2017, Tesla’s next-generation sports car has experienced several delays. Last year, a public exchange on social media occurred between Musk and Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, when Altman expressed frustration over the lengthy wait after placing a $50,000 reservation. Musk responded by stating that Altman had received his refund.
Recent reports suggest that Tesla has entirely scrapped the 2017 model in favor of a new design that will be revealed soon.
Musk has previously mentioned that even following the official announcement, actual production of the Roadster will likely take another 12 to 18 months.
