Summary
- The Wireless Power Consortium has revealed cases for Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices.
- The new cases indicate that the larger model will be called the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the slimmer version will be named Z Fold 8 Ultra, as anticipated.
- Samsung is expected to officially unveil these foldables on July 22.
Recent leaks suggest that Samsung is planning to alter the traditional Z Fold naming scheme for its next foldable series. Reports indicate there will be two models: a standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, featuring a wider design, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which will maintain the dimensions of the previous Z Fold 7. This information may appear complex, but recent accessory details provide stronger clarity.
A tech site discovered listings for several new cases from Yuchuan in the Wireless Power Consortium’s database. The listings confirm that the wider case is meant for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the narrower variant is designated for the Z Fold 8 Ultra.
While this information isn’t a definitive confirmation of the new naming system—official confirmation will come directly from Samsung—it is one of the most credible sources thus far. According to the WPC, these Yuchuan cases received certification on June 25.
The cases for both the Z Fold 8 models and a case for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 incorporate magnetic rings for Qi2 wireless charging. The Fold models are noted to support charging up to 20 watts, while the Flip 8 supports 15 watts. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 have a maximum wireless charging capability of 15 watts, meaning the Fold 8 models will see an improvement.
