SpaceX Surpasses Amazon with Soaring Valuation of $2.7 Trillion

SpaceX has overtaken Amazon to claim the position of the fifth-most valuable company globally, with its stock surging 20% on Monday and an additional 8% in early Tuesday trading, leading to a valuation exceeding $2.7 trillion.

This leap comes despite Amazon reporting a profit of $78 billion for 2025 on $717 billion in sales, while SpaceX recorded a loss of $4.9 billion with $18.7 billion in revenue. Nonetheless, SpaceX has introduced new revenue avenues, including computing leasing agreements with Anthropic and Google. Since its public offering on Friday, the company has added $1 trillion to its market valuation.

The surge in stock price on Tuesday followed SpaceX’s announcement of its acquisition of AI coding startup Cursor in an all-stock transaction valued at $60 billion. SpaceX had initially revealed a partnership with Cursor in April, a period during which CEO Elon Musk indicated that his AI venture, xAI—now integrated into SpaceX—was undergoing a significant overhaul after acknowledging it had not been adequately established in its initial form.

SpaceX’s significant IPO began with a valuation around $1.7 trillion, raising nearly $86 billion for the company. With only about 4% of its total shares made available for trade, analysts suggested that this limited availability could lead to increased volatility in the stock’s price.
