Samsung Rumored to Develop an Even Broader Foldable Beyond the Galaxy Z Fold 8

Foldable smartphones are becoming increasingly mainstream, especially with the remarkable success of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. This success may influence Samsung’s future strategies for foldable devices. Recently, credible sources have indicated that the company might be planning to introduce an even wider foldable model, with speculation pointing towards a release in 2027, as reported by a South Korean news outlet.
While specific details remain scarce, it’s suggested that this upcoming device will not adhere to the same 4:3 aspect ratio as the current Z Fold 8. Instead, Samsung is aiming to develop an aspect ratio that enhances video viewing experiences. This could possibly mean a shift toward a 16:9 or 16:10 format, though these are merely speculative figures at this point.
Reviews for the Z Fold 8 have been overwhelmingly positive, but they often highlight a notable limitation: its 4:3 aspect ratio, which results in letterboxing for most video content. A new foldable device could address and remedy this issue.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 is promoted as ideal for full-screen video, but its 4:3 display leads to letterboxing with most media. While the cover screen performs better, it still has limitations. Consumers should consider these aspect ratio challenges when assessing the device’s capabilities.

In addition, there are indications that Samsung is working on five foldable devices set for release in 2027. This range includes successors to the Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Flip 8, as well as a revamped Galaxy Z TriFold. The latter device had previously been discontinued, likely due to its high initial price tag of $2,900 during a time of RAM shortages.
We will have to wait for official announcements, which will likely occur during Samsung’s Unpacked event in July 2027. Until then, it’s also possible that we will see more details about Apple’s anticipated foldable model, which is rumored to launch alongside this year’s updated iPhone lineup.
