Samsung reports that combined preorders for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra in the US have exceeded the previous record by 30% after just the first 12 days. Following this, the Z8 series also set an all-time preorder record for Samsung foldables in South Korea, indicating that the interest is not limited to just one market that favors foldable technology.
The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is leading the charge, making up nearly 50% of all Z8 series preorders in the US. Demand has been so high that the Lavender color option has already sold out on Samsung’s US online store. Prior reports suggest that the Fold 8 is outperforming expectations and surpassing the Fold 8 Ultra in various markets, indicating that Samsung’s strategy of diversifying the Fold lineup is yielding results.
While it’s unclear if Samsung anticipated the $2,099 Fold 8 Ultra to be the main attraction, the company likely isn’t concerned about which model takes the spotlight. The more affordable Fold 8 presents an unconventional design with a compact build, a wider cover display, and a 4:3 folding screen that enhances video viewing by minimizing black borders. Additionally, it weighs just 201 grams, making it the lightest model in the Galaxy Z Fold lineup.
Moreover, statistics reveal that over three times as many Galaxy Z Flip users are transitioning to a Fold device compared to the previous generation. The popularity of the Z8 series is also boosting accessory sales, as nearly 25% of US customers who preordered a Z8 device included the latest Galaxy Watches in their orders. Globally, the Graphite color was the most favored for both Fold models, while the Pink variant topped preorders for the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 will be available for purchase starting Friday, along with the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2. Although Samsung’s decision to expand its foldable offerings may have complicated its product lineup, the preorder figures suggest that the company has effectively met customer demands.
