iOS 27 Spotify Users Can Now Request Music Through Siri Without Saying ‘on Spotify’

Spotify announced on Tuesday that using its service via Siri has become simpler for iPhone users who have upgraded to iOS 27. Now, users are no longer required to specify “on Spotify” when asking Siri to play music or other content from the app.

Users can simply say what they want to hear, whether it’s a particular song, an album, a podcast, or even a more general request like “play workout music,” or commands for specific features such as “play my DJ.”

Siri’s voice command functionality can also facilitate tasks like asking for personalized music suggestions, continuing a podcast, searching through your library, or even generating a Prompted Playlist using AI.

Spotify believes that this change will make hands-free listening more intuitive since users can concentrate on their desired content rather than worrying about how to phrase their request to activate the music service.

This new capability works because Siri can now recognize user preferences for music apps. If you frequently choose Spotify, it will automatically direct audio requests to that app.

This feature is being rolled out globally to users with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, outside the EU, provided that Apple Intelligence is activated in the device’s settings.
