Summary:
- The Galaxy A27 has officially been launched, completing Samsung’s current Galaxy A series lineup.
- This model features a contemporary hole-punch display with more balanced bezels.
- Improvements include a newer chipset, a better front camera, and an increase in base RAM.
- The retail price in the US is set at $350, with availability starting July 14.
After introducing the Galaxy A57 and A37 earlier in the year, as well as the A17 and A07 models, Samsung has finally unveiled the last phone in its current A series: the Galaxy A27. This phone had been the subject of several leaks prior to its official announcement, which took place today.
The launch of the Galaxy A27 was a low-key affair, announced through a press release. However, it does not lack significant enhancements. Notably, the phone now features a modern hole-punch display that replaces the outdated teardrop notch seen in the Galaxy A26 and earlier models. The updated design includes more uniform bezels, making the lower edge less prominent, although it’s still there. The display maintains its Full HD+ AMOLED quality with a 120Hz refresh rate.
While the overall design remains similar, there are new body-colored metallic accents around the camera on the back, along with new color options such as deep navy blue, pink, black, and light green.
Internally, the Galaxy A27 transitions to a Qualcomm processor, moving away from the Exynos 1380 used in its predecessor. It now utilizes the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, the same chipset found in last year’s Galaxy A36. Although both processors share similar architectures, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is anticipated to offer better efficiency due to its 4nm fabrication process.
Samsung has also upgraded the base RAM from 4GB to 6GB while maintaining the same 128GB storage option. Additional configurations include 8GB with 128GB or 256GB of storage.
The camera setup features three lenses: a 50MP main sensor, a 5MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro sensor. While the ultrawide has been downgraded from 8MP, the other two sensors remain unchanged. The front camera has been improved to 12MP, promising better performance in various lighting conditions compared to the previous 13MP camera. The Galaxy A27 retains a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging capability.
On the software front, the Galaxy A27 is equipped with One UI 8.5 and is committed to receiving six years of Android and One UI updates, complemented by six years of security updates. It also includes new Galaxy AI features, such as the Object Eraser in the Gallery app and automatic transcription in Voice Recorder, along with enhanced Bixby capabilities and a new AI assistant named Perplexity.
Set to launch in the US on July 14 at a price of $350, this marks a significant increase from the $300 launch price of the Galaxy A26. Complicating matters for Samsung, the Galaxy A37 is currently available for $314 on Amazon, which may impact the desirability of the new A27. It will be interesting to see how Samsung navigates this competitive landscape once the A27 hits the market.
