Google Introduces a Tailored Version of Gemini AI Assistant for Your Vehicle

Google is enhancing its Gemini AI assistant, which is already featured in millions of vehicles, by making it more personalized. This strategy aims to deepen user engagement within Google’s array of products.

On Tuesday, the company announced upgrades to Gemini that include a personal intelligence feature. This enhancement utilizes data from Gmail, Google Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Google Search history, and various other connected Google services to tailor insights based on user preferences, activities, and past interactions.

The rollout of “Personal Intelligence with Gemini” will take place in two main formats: via Android Auto, which allows the mobile app to wirelessly control navigation, media, and messaging on the vehicle’s infotainment system, and through Google Built-in, which includes software and services embedded directly within vehicles.

This feature is set to launch today for Android Auto, with plans to extend to cars equipped with Google Built-in in the coming months.

Gemini first debuted in Android Auto last November, and the “Personal Intelligence” option became available across the U.S. in March, with ongoing beta testing in international markets.

This new update aims to seamlessly integrate information across users’ Google applications, as noted in Google’s recent blog announcement.

To utilize the Personalized Intelligence feature, drivers will need to opt in. Once activated, users can expect various useful integrations. For example, if a driver is navigating to the airport, they may receive updates regarding flight delays listed in their calendar.

Google commented that the feature would enable users to make complex inquiries using natural language. Using the airport illustration again, a user could ask the AI assistant for their flight gate and subsequently inquire if the flight is still on time. According to Google, Gemini will provide answers to both queries simultaneously.

While this extensive integration might raise privacy concerns for some users, Google assures that individuals maintain full control over their data with Personal Intelligence. The feature can be toggled on or off at any time, and users can selectively connect specific apps as they see fit.
