Google Allegedly Set to Relocate Entire Pixel Manufacturing Operations from China

According to reports, the company is expected to start producing its Pixel devices in Vietnam and India from 2027.

Google is set to cease the production of all its Pixel devices in China by next year, as reported by a recent article. The tech giant has been bolstering its manufacturing capabilities in Vietnam and India in recent times, although a majority of its production still occurs in China. As per the latest information, Google has informed its suppliers about the shift of all Pixel phones, watches, and earbuds out of China beginning in 2027.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Google aimed to create and manufacture its Pixel 11 devices in Vietnam. To facilitate this, the company had to invest significantly in testing apparatus and production machinery, as well as refine its manufacturing processes for assembling its latest Pixel phones from the ground up. This successful venture has supposedly given Google the assurance to extend similar manufacturing setups for its other devices in Vietnam, even though smartphone production is generally more complex than that of earbuds and smartwatches.

Sources suggest that Google’s transition out of China may be more manageable than it would be for other brands, like Apple, largely because Google has not been officially retailing Pixel products in the Chinese market. Additionally, the current user base for Google’s phones remains relatively small, allowing the company to benefit from Samsung’s already established supply chain network in Vietnam.

Furthermore, Google has signaled to its suppliers a plan to increase Pixel phone shipments by 8 to 10 percent this year compared to last year’s total of 12 million units. The company aims to leverage its devices to boost usage of Gemini’s AI features. To mitigate the rising expenses associated with memory components, it appears Google is coordinating its orders for phone memory chips alongside those for its cloud computing segment.
