Facebook Unveils Standalone Marketplace App for Sellers, Introduces Free Verification Features

Facebook has announced a series of new features aimed at enhancing user engagement and streamlining the platform for its community. Upcoming changes include a dedicated app for Marketplace sellers, a verification system for users on Dating, Marketplace, and Groups, as well as a revamped immersive video design.
The Marketplace sees over 430 million listings each month, and with more than 1.1 billion active users, it remains a popular choice among younger demographics.
To sustain this growth, Facebook is launching a specialized app named “Seller.” This app is designed to assist frequent sellers in managing their listings, communicating with buyers, and monitoring the performance of their items.
In addition, Facebook is introducing a free verification feature known as Facebook Verified. This system differs from Meta Verified, which charges for a verification badge and other benefits.
With Facebook Verified, users can take a selfie to confirm their identity, resulting in a verification badge that will appear on their profiles in the Dating segment, Marketplace, and Groups. The new verification mark will resemble a check mark within a white circle, contrasting with the blue badge linked to the paid Meta Verified service.

Moreover, the company is testing an optional full-screen video viewing experience for the Facebook app, set to launch in international markets that focus heavily on video content before reaching the U.S. next year.
Users will have the option to disable this feature and return to the traditional feed layout. A similar update was recently tested with Instagram in various regions.
Meta has been consistently releasing new applications aimed at different user segments. Earlier this year, it launched a Reddit-style app for Facebook Groups called Forum, along with a vibe coding app named Pocket this month.
Looking ahead, the company intends to incorporate AI within these apps to assist users with automating tasks like writing item descriptions for sales or navigating groups to find answers.
