Explore Exciting Features in tvOS 27.2 for a Revamped Apple TV Experience

While not revolutionary, the updates in tvOS 27.2 offer several useful enhancements.

Expanded Screen Saver Options and Improved FaceTime Features

Apple TV is well known for having exceptional screensavers, and while they might not be the main draw, they are undeniably appealing. Previously, users had to settle for one category, but tvOS 27.2 introduces a welcome change.

The latest update features a “Shuffle” mode, rotating between Aerials, Memories, Portraits, and Snoopy. This means that each time your Apple TV activates the screensaver, a new visual will appear. Additionally, you can select specific photos from your iPhone for use in the screensaver, avoiding the need to share your entire photo library. This is particularly beneficial for households with shared Apple TVs, ensuring personal images don’t unexpectedly appear on display.

In another enhancement, FaceTime has been upgraded to include links, simplifying the process of joining calls directly from the Apple TV. The calls still utilize your iPhone as a webcam through the Continuity Camera feature. Furthermore, FaceTime now supports third-party sign language interpreters and live captioning, which is also available for iPhones, iPads, and Macs with their respective updates.

Siri Remote Tracking and Sign Language Support in Media

The latest Apple TV 4K includes an upgraded Siri Remote that enhances Find My capabilities, featuring an integrated speaker for easier location tracking. Although this requires newer hardware, tvOS 27.2 does provide a minor improvement for older models. Now, the remote can be located through the Find My app, eliminating the need to access the TV Remote from your iPhone’s Control Center. This straightforward modification leads to a smoother experience.

Moreover, the Apple TV app now supports American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) for select movies and shows, which can be activated through the player controls or in Settings. The TV app also introduced profile support on iPhones and iPads in iOS 27.2, now allowing sync with your Apple TV. Additionally, new characters have been added for profile selection, making it a practical feature for families or shared households. Another minor update in tvOS 27.2 is the refreshed black-and-white icon for Apple Music, aligning with the updated design in iOS 27.2.

If you haven’t upgraded your Apple TV yet, the update is accessible via the Settings app under System and Software Update. It’s free for second-generation Apple TV 4K (released in 2021) and newer models. Keep in mind that some features, like the ability to set up a surround sound system with two pairs of the new HomePod mini 2, are exclusive to the latest Apple TV 4K equipped with the A19 chip introduced earlier this month.
