Chamath Palihapitiya Secures $135M in Series A Funding for His AI Coding Venture, Assumes CEO Position

Chamath Palihapitiya, recognized for his venture capital firm Social Capital and the All-In podcast, announced on Monday that his AI coding startup has successfully completed a substantial Series A funding round.

8090 Labs secured $135 million, with Salesforce Ventures leading the investment. Other contributors included Jeffrey Katzenberg’s WndrCo, David Sacks’ Craft Ventures, and co-hosts from the All-In podcast—David Friedberg’s The Production Board and Jason Calacanis’ Launch. Notable angel investors such as Nikesh Arora, the CEO of Palo Alto Networks, and Adam D’Angelo, CEO of Quora, also took part.

Founded in January 2024, 8090 Labs aims to deliver an AI coding solution tailored for corporate programming teams. Their flagship product, Software Factory, is designed to assist corporate developers in creating production-ready software, as opposed to only basic prototypes, ensuring essential features like audit trails are included, according to the company.

In addition to the funding announcement, Palihapitiya revealed on X that he will take on the role of CEO at the startup, shifting from his previous position on the board.

He shared that the current surge in AI closely resembles the early days of social media during his tenure at Facebook, before it transformed into Meta. “Ever since leaving Facebook, I’ve anticipated a moment like this to re-engage in a full-time operational capacity,” he stated. “I am confident that what we are developing now holds even greater significance, leaving me no other choice but to fully commit.”
