Beehiiv Introduces Subscriber Chat Feature and AI Integration in Latest Update

Beehiiv, a newsletter service, is broadening its engagement capabilities with the introduction of a new feature called Community, allowing creators’ subscribers to interact with one another. Additionally, the platform has launched an AI assistant named Copilot to assist creators in audience management and growth.

These new features signal Beehiiv’s ambition to evolve into a multifaceted creator platform. Recently, it has also introduced podcasts, webinars, and customizable paywalls, some of which have proven successful; notably, half of the users launching podcasts have transitioned their shows from other platforms.

The Community feature enables creators to establish discussion forums directly within the Beehiiv platform. Currently, many creators run their member chats on external platforms like Discord, Slack, or Facebook groups, but Beehiiv aims to centralize these interactions. This feature allows for the creation of paid membership tiers, providing exclusive access to specific chatrooms and moderation capabilities.

“Audience members share an interest in your content, but they lack a way to engage with each other. Whether it’s sports, current events, or other topics, providing a space for interaction is incredibly beneficial,” stated Beehiiv CEO Tyler Denk.

Additionally, Beehiiv is introducing programmatic advertisements, which will enable users to sell advertising space within their newsletters. This feature allows them to select ads that are expected to yield the highest revenue based on their audience, content, and performance metrics.

The platform already offers metered paywalls, paid trials, and a sponsorship storefront for selling ad slots in bundles. Beehiiv also reported that publishers using its ad network collectively earn over $1 million monthly.

The new AI assistant, Copilot, is designed to provide contextual insights based on factors such as content, audience, and performance. It can evaluate the success of various newsletters and podcasts, assist in drafting outreach campaigns, and identify potential revenue opportunities.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy incorporating artificial intelligence, including a recently introduced model context protocol server that allows integration with other AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude. Furthermore, Beehiiv is enhancing its Answer Engine Optimization to increase the visibility of newsletters in AI-generated responses.

Alongside these developments, Beehiiv has redesigned its editor to offer side-by-side views of editing and preview modes, aiding creators in understanding how their content appears to readers.

Denk mentioned that in the upcoming months, Beehiiv will focus on educating its users about these new tools and demonstrating how leading newsletters are leveraging them for growth.

Competitors in the space are also advancing with new features, such as Riverside’s newsletter publishing option launched recently and Substack’s new built-in recording studio introduced earlier this year.
