Apple Vision Pro Executive Allegedly Set to Join OpenAI

Paul Meade, Apple’s vice president overseeing the Vision Pro headset, is set to depart from the company to join the hardware division at OpenAI, as reported by Mark Gurman.

Meade was also instrumental in creating AI-driven smart glasses that Apple is expected to unveil next year. The high-priced Vision Pro did not achieve the desired market impact, but Apple is optimistic that more affordable smart glasses will allow it to better compete with wearable technology from Meta.

Gurman suggests that this move aligns with John Ternus’ upcoming promotion to CEO of Apple, who is reportedly reorganizing the hardware engineering team, causing some vice presidents to feel sidelined.

On a related note, OpenAI is collaborating with Jony Ive, Apple’s former chief design officer, on a new AI device. CEO Sam Altman has stated that this new gadget aims to be more serene and user-friendly than an iPhone, though previous reports indicated the company faced challenges in fine-tuning its design.

Inquiries for comments have been sent to both Apple and OpenAI.
