Anthropic’s Claude Tag: Mastering Your Business Through Every Slack Interaction

Anthropic has launched a new feature called Claude Tag, an “always-on” AI assistant integrated within Slack, designed to serve as a collaborative team member. This beta service will be available to users of Claude Enterprise and Claude Team.

Claude Tag builds upon existing integration features. Users have the ability to message @Claude directly in Slack or mention it in group channels for immediate assistance. The Claude Code feature enables the routing of programming tasks from channel mentions to full coding sessions, providing updates back into the chat.

What sets Claude Tag apart is its capability to retain ongoing context and memory, addressing a limitation of earlier tools. According to Anthropic, “As Claude observes its channel, it gains deeper insights into the project.” It can also pull relevant information from different parts of the organization, if permitted to access other channels.

With Claude Tag, all members of a Slack channel can engage with a unified Claude identity. This ensures transparency as everyone can view Claude’s ongoing work and continue conversations seamlessly. Administrators will define the scope of tools, information, and channels Claude can interact with, ensuring that different contexts, like legal or engineering, remain separate.

When tasked with assignments, Claude Tag will decompose the work into manageable steps and utilize its available tools to deliver updates in a Slack thread. Additionally, it has an ambient mode that allows it to engage proactively in conversations, keeping teams informed and following up on overlooked tasks or items across the organization.

Anthropic asserts that this approach fosters an experience akin to collaborating with a real colleague, offering enhanced context and understanding compared to previous iterations.

The emphasis on context is becoming vital for enterprise applications, and Anthropic is not alone in this focus. Other companies, such as Microsoft with its Graph platform and features like Copilot and Work IQ, are also prioritizing contextual intelligence. Similarly, Snowflake and Databricks are developing their platforms to harness organizational knowledge, while Glean is creating a layer of intelligence that bridges the gap between models and enterprise data.
