Currently, users of apps utilizing the Android Photo Picker can select existing media to share. However, if you decide to edit the chosen media—such as cropping it—during the selection phase, you need to exit the Photo Picker, minimize the third-party application, navigate to the media gallery app, make your edits, save them, minimize or exit the gallery app, then return to the third-party app to resume sharing through the Photo Picker.
This process can be cumbersome and creates unnecessary friction.
In the Android 17 QPR 2 Beta 2, there are signs that Google is working on integrating a media editor into the Android Photo Picker. The newly found “EditFeature” class is designed to function as a popup dialog directly within the Photo Picker. Other snippets of code corroborate that this feature is associated with image editing functionalities built into the Photo Picker.
