Price hikes affect Amazon’s product lineup including Echo and Kindle.
No business is spared from the ongoing chip supply crisis and its impact on pricing, including Amazon. Recently reported by a major publication, the company has quietly implemented price increases across its Echo, Fire TV, Kindle, and eero device range. In certain instances, these hikes reach as high as 60% or an additional $100.
The Echo Dot, Amazon’s entry-level smart speaker, witnessed a steep price jump from $50 to $80. Other Echo products experienced similar increases, such as the Echo Show 21, which rose from $400 to $500. Meanwhile, more affordable items like the Fire TV Stick HD now cost $40, up from $35, and the Fire TV Stick 4K Max’s price went from $60 to $85. The company’s acclaimed e-readers also saw new pricing; the 16GB version of the latest Kindle is now $150, compared to its previous price of $110, and the 16GB Kindle Paperwhite has increased to $200 from $160.
Additionally, Amazon’s eero mesh Wi-Fi system has become pricier, with the eero 7 bundle now costing $400 instead of $350, and the eero Pro 7 3-pack has risen from $700 to $800. Interestingly, Ring products from Amazon have not experienced any price changes. An Amazon representative confirmed these adjustments and attributed them to “significant increases in memory and storage component costs.” They indicated that Amazon aims to keep its products affordable while still providing promotional deals throughout the year.
Amazon joins the ranks of other tech companies that have had to raise pricing in light of the continued chip shortages. Earlier this summer, Apple also opted to raise prices on various hardware items such as iPads and MacBooks, while Roku implemented price increases of up to $50 on its devices in July.
