AYN Lowers Specifications for Crucial Odin 3 Portal Ahead of Shipping Launch

In summary:

  • AYN recently launched the Odin 3 Portal featuring notable specs like a 9,000mAh battery.
  • The company initially advertised a charging speed of 60W, but this has since been revised.
  • The device will now support only 45W fast charging, which is lower than the capabilities of the previous Odin 3 model.

AYN debuted its flagship gaming device, the Odin 3 Portal, last month. This handheld is equipped with top-tier hardware, including a Snapdragon 8 Elite (non-cellular) processor, a 7-inch OLED screen, and a robust 9,000mAh battery, along with an internal cooling fan.

Initially, AYN claimed the device could achieve 60W charging speeds. However, they have since acknowledged this as a mistake. In a recent message on their official Discord server, AYN clarified that the Odin 3 Portal will limit charging speeds to 45W instead.

The company attributed the discrepancy to an “internal documentation issue” and expressed regret for any confusion caused. They have updated the product page to reflect this change.

It remains unclear whether this was an actual mistake or a change in strategy for better manufacturing efficiency. AYN added:

The finalized design and product specifications only support a maximum charging rate of 45W.

The Odin 3 Portal will be produced and shipped according to this finalized 45W specification.

For potential buyers of the new Portal, this may be disappointing, especially since the standard Odin 3 model supports faster 60W charging.

The Odin 3 Portal will be available in four configurations featuring either 12GB or 16GB of RAM with storage options ranging from 128GB to 1TB. The starting price for the base model is $419, dropping to $399 for early purchasers, while the top-tier Max version costs $699, currently available for $669.

While AYN initially announced that the Odin 3 Portal would begin shipping in early November, the precise date is still uncertain. Those comfortable with the revised charging speeds can already place their orders at the official store.
