Bluesky Introduces New Feature: A Dedicated Moderation Inbox

A new feature enhances users’ ability to monitor reports and account strikes.
Bluesky has introduced a new beta feature aimed at helping users keep track of moderation actions on the platform. The “moderation inbox” is now accessible through the Bluesky app, consolidating reports users have submitted about others and information on actions taken against their accounts, along with their overall standing.
To activate the moderation inbox, users can enable beta features in the app’s Settings and then locate the inbox within the Moderation tools. Initially, the inbox will be empty, even for users with existing strikes, but it will begin to populate as users report posts and as Bluesky takes action regarding their accounts or labels their posts. Additionally, users can appeal most of Bluesky’s decisions directly through the app, although account suspensions must still be addressed at the login screen.
The aim of this feature is to simplify communication with users. Previously, moderation decisions were primarily communicated via email, which posed challenges for users on independent servers and often meant emails were sent only for serious matters. The new inbox allows notifications to reach all Bluesky app users and enables the company to transparently share each step of the moderation process without overwhelming users’ email accounts.
Bluesky has garnered attention for its strong blocking tools that empower users to manage their own feeds, but its moderation practices have faced criticism. Reports have indicated that Bluesky’s automated spam detection has unjustly deactivated accounts belonging to Palestinians raising funds on the platform, leading to claims that it unfairly equated people with automated accounts. Users have also expressed discontent regarding the moderation of posts related to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, suggesting that clearer in-app notifications and appealing options may have alleviated some dissatisfaction.
In addition to the moderation inbox, the latest update from Bluesky introduces an optional home screen widget that showcases trending topics.
