Salesforce Expands Its Portfolio: $375M Acquisition of Defense Tech Innovator Rune Revealed

Salesforce is set to acquire Rune Technologies, a startup specializing in AI software aimed at enhancing supply chain forecasting and logistics for the U.S. military, for a total of $375 million in cash and stock, according to Resilience Media.
This acquisition highlights Salesforce’s strategic entry into defense technology through its Missionforce unit, which caters to national defense and security organizations. Since its inception last year, Missionforce has experienced an impressive 80% annual growth, bolstered by a significant 10-year, $5.6 billion deal with the U.S. Army. By incorporating Rune’s on-ground logistics insights, Missionforce plans to evolve its offerings from traditional administrative functions to active support in military operations.
Founded in 2024, Rune has successfully secured $30 million in funding from various investors, such as Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures, and IQT, the venture firm associated with the CIA, previously known as In-Q-Tel. The startup was valued at $127 million during its last funding round, a Series A led by Human Capital, as reported by PitchBook.
Salesforce has been actively acquiring companies throughout the year. In addition to the purchase of Rune, the CRM leader has announced the acquisition of the AI agent platform Fin (previously known as Intercom) for $3.6 billion, acquired Qualified for $1.2 billion, and is in talks to acquire Listen Labs after the startup opted out of a $125 million Series C funding round at a valuation of $1.5 billion, as noted by TechCrunch.
