Apple’s Touchscreen MacBook Pro Sets a New Benchmark for Laptop Pricing

Apple has officially introduced a new touchscreen MacBook Pro, though it comes with an expensive price tag.

The entry-level touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at $2,899, a significant amount in today’s economic climate. However, for those seeking the most advanced model with every enhancement, you’ll need to be ready to spend approximately $14,549.

According to initial reports, the fully loaded versions of the 14-inch model are priced at $14,249, while the 16-inch variant costs $14,549. Both models feature Apple’s high-performance M5 Max chip, which boasts an 18-core CPU and a 40-core GPU.

The rising costs can be partly attributed to a continuing shortage of memory and the demanding hardware requirements driven by advancements in AI. Upgrading to a 4TB SSD will set you back an additional $1,000, while an 8TB upgrade costs $3,000. If you’re interested in the new 16TB option, prepare to pay an extra $7,000.

If you wish to increase the memory to 128GB, that will cost another $2,000, while the optional nano-texture glass adds $150.

For context, the previous 16-inch MacBook Pro’s price capped at $10,149, meaning the new model increases that limit by an impressive $4,400.

Despite the exorbitant pricing, the release signifies a notable change for Apple, almost ten years after the first attempt with the Touch Bar, a feature that the company later discarded. Now, Apple is poised to embrace the touchscreen functionality with its MacBook Pro lineup.

Preorders are set to begin on October 30, with the official launch scheduled for November 6.
