Meta has introduced a new AI-driven virtual pet game called Waddle World, tapping into the charm of cuteness as a key aspect of its AI approach. Currently, this game is only accessible in the Philippines. If you’ve engaged with Tamagotchi or other virtual pet experiences, Waddle World will be quite reminiscent. Players hatch an egg to receive a pet, which requires care and attention to ensure happiness. This digital companion can interact through chat and produce illustrated journal entries based on your conversations.
Social media expert Matt Navarra shared information about the game on X, indicating that it became available for download in late September on both Apple App Store and Google Play. Described as a “daily journal disguised as a pet,” Waddle World offers a 16-bit aesthetic that allows users to write or dictate journal entries that foster communication with their pet. Each diary entry receives a response from the pet, complete with a unique doodle. The interactions leverage Meta’s AI technology, merging the mechanics of Tamagotchi with the capabilities of AI like ChatGPT.

The app also features mini-games where players can earn points to purchase food and toys for their pet. In one mini-game, you stack grocery items on top of your pet’s head, while another involves catching falling stars and avoiding bombs. A different game challenges players to spell words from jumbled letters. Currently, the app’s limited availability may be due to Meta conducting tests in the Philippines before a broader launch.
In addition to creating adorable avatars and assigning personality traits to your Muse agent, Meta has unveiled the “Muse Charm” at its Connect event in September. This AI companion device resembles an egg-shaped Tamagotchi that houses your Muse avatar, designed to be compact enough to serve as a keychain for constant accessibility. Meta aims for a holiday release in December for this innovative gadget.
