The Estimated Wealth of Anthropic’s Investors Ahead of Its IPO

Anthropic is set to go public this year with a potential valuation reaching $2 trillion, promising significant gains for both early and later investors. Even with its recent private valuation hitting $965 billion, the investments from venture capitalists and early supporters have already accrued substantial value, amounting to billions.

Coatue: This firm initially supported Anthropic in 2025 with an investment at a $183 billion valuation and has since co-led its last two funding rounds, totaling $4.75 billion in investments. Based on the most recent valuation, Coatue’s stake is now valued at approximately $7.5 billion, although the firm opted not to comment on this figure.

The following outlines the estimated worth of other notable backers of Anthropic based on the latest funding round valuation:

Eric Schmidt: The former CEO of Google invested in Anthropic’s Series A round in 2021, when the company was valued at $461 million, according to data from PitchBook. Currently, Schmidt holds about 1% of the firm, with his stake now valued at nearly $10 billion based on the current private valuation.

Iconiq: This investment company provided a significant $6 billion last year at a time when Anthropic’s valuation was already at $183 billion. This substantial investment has grown to an estimated $17 billion and might see even further increase upon the company’s IPO.

Menlo Ventures: After leading Anthropic’s Series D round, this venture capital firm has invested over $1 billion in total, resulting in a stake now valued at $14 billion.

Sequoia: This prominent venture capital firm made its first investment in Anthropic earlier this year, when the company was valued at $380 billion. A $3 billion investment secured roughly 1% ownership, more than doubling their initial investment value.

Sound Ventures: Founded by Guy Oseary and Ashton Kutcher, this firm invested $35 million in Anthropic’s Series C round in 2023 and has since added an additional $400 million, creating a stake worth billions. (Ashton Kutcher left Sound Ventures this year to establish a new venture capital firm.)

Spark Capital: The only venture capital firm with a board position at Anthropic, it invested $75 million in the same Series C round when the company was valued at $5 billion. This stake has surged in value, now estimated at around $7 billion.
