Capcom Envisions a Collaborative Future: Crafting Games Alongside AI

Capcom’s upcoming title, Pragmata, explores the unsettling aspects of artificial intelligence, yet the company appears optimistic about the technology’s potential. At the recent Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026, programmer Satoshi Ishida presented a detailed talk entitled “The Outlook and Future of the REX Project, Further Evolving the RE Engine for the Next Generation.” During this session, he discussed the numerous challenges game studios encounter when creating expansive games like Resident Evil, noting that even straightforward tasks can become quite elaborate. Ishida highlighted the importance of “effectively integrating AI technology into development workflows” as a solution to these hurdles.
In earlier statements, Capcom confirmed its stance against using AI-generated assets in games, opting instead to leverage the technology for enhancing development efficiency. However, Ishida’s remarks suggest a willingness to consider broader applications of AI. He outlined a strategy to gradually evolve the RE Engine into an “AI-generation game engine,” aiming for a future where game creation becomes a collaborative effort between humans and AI, as interpreted by various sources.
