Y Combinator Graduate Angle Health Achieves Impressive $2.7 Billion Valuation in Insurtech

In a notable achievement, startup Angle Health, founded in 2019, has successfully secured a $200 million Series C funding round, complemented by a $400 million tender offer, reaching a valuation of $2.7 billion. The round, led by Vitruvian Partners, saw contributions from Town Hall Ventures, Blumberg Capital, Portage Ventures, PruVen Capital, and Y Combinator. The tender offer allows employees to liquidate a portion of their shares, with the company anticipating the round will finalize later this month.
A participant in the Winter 2020 Y Combinator program, Angle Health specializes in helping small businesses navigate and manage “level-funded health plans.” These plans represent a middle ground between fully insured and self-funded options. Fully insured plans transfer all risks to the insurance carrier, providing predictable costs but higher expenses. Conversely, self-funded plans place the financial burden on the company, leading to potential unpredictability. Level-funded plans offer businesses consistent payments to carriers, protection against unexpected high costs, and the chance to recoup a portion of the surplus if their expenses remain low.
Angle Health claims that its solutions make health insurance more accessible for small businesses. The company employs an AI-powered platform that assists in the selection and management of plans, seamlessly integrating with payroll and HR systems. Currently, it boasts a clientele of over 5,000 businesses and operates profitably.
