This morning, I experienced an unexpected wake-up call from a rooster—no, I don’t live in a rural area. The source of my alarm was an innovative app I decided to try out.
Introducing Clucky, a recently launched alarm app designed specifically for those who have a habit of hitting the snooze button. This app allows users to be roused by a rooster’s crow and requires them to complete a task before they can silence the alarm.
Clucky belongs to a growing trend of alarm apps, like Alarmy and Awake, that incorporate challenges to prevent users from easily turning off their alarms and going back to sleep. While the quirky rooster feature may be its most entertaining aspect, the app aims to make the act of dismissing an alarm so bothersome and absurd that users wake up completely.
For users who prefer a more traditional wake-up experience, Clucky offers a range of sounds including soothing chimes, singing birds, and the familiar digital beep. There’s even an “Extra Loud Mode” that increases the volume immediately upon activation.
The app’s wake-up tasks vary widely and include solving math equations, memorizing sequences, repeating phrases dictated by Clucky, shaking the device, walking, performing push-ups, guiding a ball toward a target, and completing a challenge with an AI camera.
Moreover, Clucky features a comprehensive statistics section that monitors how long your alarm rings before you complete a task, the number of challenges successfully finished, and your total wake-up count. Users will also receive a “Rooster Report,” which evaluates their wake-up effectiveness over the week.
Another interesting aspect of Clucky is the ability to form a “Nest” or “Flock” with friends or family members. These private alarm groups encourage synchronized wake-up times and mutual accountability.
Clucky was established by Adrian Angelo Abelarde, a former software engineer at Fanatics. Abelarde hasn’t responded to requests for comments at this time.
This app can currently be downloaded from the App Store, and there is a pro subscription available at an annual cost of $39.99.
