Introducing the Genesis GV90 NeoLun: A Sumptuous Electric SUV Featuring Heated Floors and Elegant Coach Doors

Genesis has unveiled its GV90 NeoLun electric SUV, a model packed with innovative features, particularly in its door design rather than the expected areas of the dashboard or drivetrain. This latest offering from Hyundai’s luxury division showcases advanced technology and a striking new aesthetic that emphasizes understated elegance.
The standout characteristic of the GV90 NeoLun is its unique coach doors, which create a spacious entry for both the driver and passengers. While some may consider this a simple modification, flipping the front door hinges would pose significant safety risks during side impacts and complicate entry and exit due to overlapping movements of the doors.
To resolve this complication, Genesis has implemented a “dual-motion hinge” mechanism that allows the rear door to slide outward slightly before it fully opens. This design enables both rear doors to function independently without hindering the front ones. Furthermore, the GV90 is built with a robust structure that connects the doors securely to the vehicle body, featuring dual high-strength steel beams and a cabin frame 50% thicker than standard vehicles, effectively serving as a hidden roll cage.
In terms of aesthetics, the NeoLun boasts soft curves and a rounded rear that evoke designs from luxury brands like Rolls Royce and Land Rover, though without direct imitation. However, the oversized front grille detracts a bit from this luxurious impression, and the unconventional light strip design at the front remains a topic of debate. Nevertheless, the overall design, especially with the coach doors, makes a distinct statement of luxury.
An all-new electric vehicle platform with a large battery
The GV90 is built on a new platform named eMP, designed to maximize cabin space, enhance ride comfort, and ensure enjoyable driving dynamics. Both the GV90 NeoLun and its counterpart, which lacks the coach doors, feature a substantial 123.5 kWh battery pack—the largest to date for a Hyundai Motor Group model. This battery enables a range of 311 miles on a single charge, which may seem modest given its size. However, utilizing a 350kW fast charger allows for a rapid 10 to 80 percent charge in only 22 minutes.
With a dual-motor powertrain delivering 657 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, the performance specs sound impressive, though they may only be adequate considering the vehicle’s size (Genesis has yet to disclose acceleration figures). The GV90 also boasts an adjustable multi-chamber air suspension for a smooth ride and can adapt its height based on road conditions. Additionally, the active rear-wheel steering feature assists in maneuvering this lengthy 208.1-inch vehicle.
Genesis has not yet provided the final weight, but given the substantial battery, reinforced body, and advanced suspension, the GV90 NeoLun could potentially rank among the heaviest SUVs available.
Luxurious interior and advanced technology
The interiors of the GV90 models are replete with cutting-edge technology and opulent amenities. The central “Cinematic Display” measures 23.6 inches in driving mode and expands to 24.6 inches when parked, turning it into a mobile theater. Instead of a traditional gauge cluster, drivers receive a 25-inch heads-up display that provides comprehensive information on speed, navigation, and driver assistance systems.
The sophisticated 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D sound system includes a “virtual venue” capability that mimics acoustics from renowned concert halls. The cabin also features ambient lighting, massage functions in the seats, and heated wood veneer flooring—an innovative touch. The top includes a Smart Vision Roof capable of adjusting its opacity in six zones.
The front seats can swivel, allowing occupants to engage with each other more easily. Luxurious materials like natural wood, cashmere, leather, and even stone are available, with five distinct interior color options that evoke an upscale aesthetic.
The GV90 models are expected to launch in early 2027, with pricing anticipated to commence around $100,000. Featuring innovative doors, a unique design, and high-tech luxury, the GV90 NeoLun is likely to attract affluent buyers looking for a distinctive SUV.
