Supermassive Games to Reduce Workforce by Up to 75 Employees

The developer behind Until Dawn and Directive 8020 is reducing its workforce to maintain financial stability.
Workers in the video game industry are once again facing layoffs. Supermassive Games, known for titles like Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology, has announced it will terminate the employment of up to 75 staff members.
In an official statement shared on social media, the UK-based studio revealed, “We have made the difficult decision to initiate a redundancy consultation process, which we expect will lead to the departure of up to 75 of our colleagues. This step is essential to ensure the long-term sustainability of the company. We understand this is a particularly challenging time for everyone involved, and our main focus will be on providing support to those affected.”
This marks Supermassive’s third round of layoffs within a span of two and a half years. In February 2024, around 90 employees were let go, followed by approximately 35 job cuts in July 2025. By the end of 2025, the studio had 172 staff members. The former CEO, Robert Henrysson, resigned in June, shortly after the launch of their latest game, Directive 8020.
A sequel to Until Dawn was announced in June, but Supermassive is not involved in its development. Instead, the project is being handled by Firesprite, one of Sony’s internal studios. Additionally, Supermassive did not participate in the 2024 remake of Until Dawn.
