Upcoming Apple Watches Could Feature Diverse Screen Sizes or a Screenless Variant

Minor updates may lead to the reintroduction of the ceramic case, alongside fresh color and band selections.

Apple is reportedly contemplating a significant redesign of its smartwatches, although the specific path remains uncertain, as detailed by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. While the forthcoming Series 12 and Ultra 4 models are not anticipated to feature drastic changes, Apple has been investigating multiple avenues for a future overhaul of its smartwatch line.

In a landscape where competition is intensifying due to newcomers like Whoop, Gurman noted that Apple is “evaluating new devices that lack displays, in addition to exploring alternative screen types and various sizes.” Additionally, the tech giant may diversify its smartwatch offerings by introducing more premium models beyond the existing Ultra and Hermès varieties, and it might also provide a more economical option below the Apple Watch SE price range. Although no concrete decisions have been made regarding the next generation of smartwatches, it has been suggested that any redesign is still a year or two away.

Though not as revolutionary as a complete redesign, Gurman indicated that Apple plans to reintroduce the ceramic case option for the Apple Watch by 2026 or 2027, alongside new color and band selections, as well as enhancements to health and fitness features. Regardless of the new design elements, it is expected that the next-generation smartwatch will integrate an updated version of Siri more effectively.
