Google Revamps the Aesthetic of Several Pixel Watch Apps

Summary

  • Google is revamping the icons for several Wear OS applications on Pixel Watches.
  • The Clock and Stopwatch apps are receiving new color schemes that appear more natural.
  • This update follows a redesign of the ECG icon that took place in June.

The launch of Google’s upcoming smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 5, is just around the corner, scheduled to be unveiled next Wednesday alongside the new Pixel 11 series. Alongside the expected roll-out of Wear OS 7, Google has also been working on additional updates for its smartwatch software, including reforms to some app icons.

When using your Pixel Watch today, you might notice that the app interface looks similar to this:

However, even before the Pixel Watch 5 is released, Google seems to be actively updating some of the existing applications. An observed update shows new icons for the Wear OS Clock and Stopwatch apps, reported by user Joe Lenington.

The Clock app has undergone some significant design modifications, featuring a refreshed aesthetic and a new color palette. The previously prominent alarm bells are now less obtrusive, contributing to a more streamlined look. Additionally, Google has introduced classic clock hand positioning at 10:10, lending a more traditional touch to the design. Adjusting to the darker theme can be a bit of a shift, but many users might appreciate this enhancement.

The changes to the Stopwatch app are less dramatic, introducing a new color scheme to its existing appearance. The previous design was visually acceptable, but the updated one has a refined look that aligns with the current trend.

This isn’t the first time Google has concentrated on improving the app icons for Wear OS, as evidenced by the ECG app’s redesign earlier this June. Given the efforts Google has been exerting towards revamping app icons, it’s likely that more Wear OS applications will see similar updates in the near future.
